In California, assets left only by a will usually go through probate, a public court process that often takes a year or more. Statutory fees are set by law as a percentage of the estate: on a $500,000 estate, attorney and executor fees alone can total about $26,000.
If you become unable to manage your affairs, the person you choose steps in right away, without a court conservatorship. Your powers of attorney and health care directive cover the rest.
Name guardians for minor children, decide when and how beneficiaries receive their inheritance, and keep your family’s affairs private.
Individual: $3,500
Married couple / domestic partners: $4,500
Includes one California property deed. Additional properties and specialized trusts are quoted separately, in writing, before any work begins. Will-based plans and individual documents are also available. See all fees.
